Weather Resistant Twin Filter + UV Whole House Water Sanitation System — Stainless Steel Enclosure (HPF-UV)

This is the outdoor answer for rain, tank and bore water. A twin 20" x 4.5" high flow filter system and a high output ultraviolet chamber, both pre-installed inside a 304 brushed stainless steel enclosure with an acrylic viewing panel — so the lamp, the ballast and the gauges are out of the weather and out of reach.

If you have ever seen a UV ballast that has spent two summers zip-tied to a fence post, you already know why this exists.

Choose your configuration

The housings are shipped to you empty so you can pick the cartridges that suit your water, rather than paying for a set that may be wrong for your tank.

• Complete — rain & tank water ($2,962.50)
  System plus a 5 micron washable pleated sediment cartridge and a 5 micron silver impregnated carbon block. The pleated cartridge takes out the grit and can be rinsed and reused. The silver impregnated carbon is bacteriostatic, so bacteria do not colonise the carbon between services. Five micron is deliberate here — the UV needs clear water to work, so the pre-filtration is finer than you would use on a plain filter system.
• System only ($2,750)
  The enclosure, twin housings, UV chamber, lamp, thimble, ballast, gauges and frame, without cartridges. Choose this if you already know what you want in it.

Why ultraviolet, and what it does

Filtration alone does not make untreated water safe to drink — carbon does not kill bacteria, viruses or parasites. Ultraviolet does, by disrupting the organism so it cannot reproduce. Nothing is added to your water, and nothing changes the taste.

The order matters. Sediment and carbon go first so the water reaching the lamp is clear, because UV cannot work through cloudy water. That is why this unit is built in that sequence.

• Maximum flow: 60 L/min. The UV chamber itself handles 75 to 105 L/min, but the 20" x 4.5" housings are the limit on the system as a whole

• WaterMark certified to AS/NZS 3497 under certificate number 23247

Water quality before the system

This unit is designed for water within normal rain, tank and bore parameters — hardness under 120 mg/L, turbidity under 1.0 NTU, iron under 0.3 mg/L, manganese under 0.05 mg/L, tannins under 0.1 mg/L. If your water sits outside those, it needs pre-treatment in front of this system rather than after it. Send us a water test and we will tell you straight whether it needs something ahead of it.

Installation

This is plumbed into your supply and plugged into power, which is licensed work. We are the specialist side of Wahoo Plumbing, QBCC 15256568, working the Sunshine Coast since 1997 — so if you are between Caloundra and Noosa or all of Moreton Bay area, we can supply and install it properly. Anywhere else in Australia, we will ship it to you.

Servicing

• Replace the UV lamp every 12 months. The lamp often still lights after a year, but its output has dropped below what reliably kills bacteria
• Replace the quartz thimble every 2 years, and clean it every 6 months if your water is hard
• Leave the UV running. Switching a UV system on and off shortens lamp life
• The earthing cable must be fitted from the UV chamber to the ballast before the unit is operated
